Big6 Question of the Week- Overview

The Big6 is a problem-solving strategy developed by teacher-researchers Bob Berkowitz and Mike Eisenberg. It is used by students as a research model. To learn more about the Big6, click here or on the Big6 logo in this posting.

Here's how the Big6 Question of the Week works:
  1. Every Monday morning, our students are introduced to a Big6 Question of the Week. The questions range in difficulty and across all subjects.

  2. Students find the answer to the question through their own research or with help from their teacher or parents. Adults in the school participate as well.

  3. Answers are recorded on Big6 answer forms and placed in the Big6 box which is located in the media center. Click here to access the "official" Big6 answer forms.

  4. On Friday, answer forms are pulled from the Big6 box to find the first student and adult with the correct answer. The correct answer to the question, the "winners" and a new question are all announced on Monday morning.
If you have any questions, e-mail Mrs. Doubtfire rdoubtfire@bennett.net

My Delicious Bookmarks

Interactive Reading and Writing, Oh MY!!

Would you like for your elementary students (and maybe even ESL students) to read books and write books online? This is a great site that allows you to read published books at various age ranges and write stories to be published on their site. And it is (a teacher's favorite word) FREE!!! (And no this is not owned by Google!) The membership is free, the resources are free and the hours of enjoyment, you got it, FREE!! You do not have to be a member to read the books. However, if you join, you can write stories and they will let you add books to your "bookshelf" to read later. Check out: http://www.biguniverse.com/

Media Center Happenings-October 26th

At the end of September, we held our first Scholastic Book Fair of the 2009-2010 school year. I am happy to say that not only did we raise enough money to purchase a SMART-board for the Media Center. We also raised enough money to purchase a student response system as well. I just want to say thank you to all the parents, students and staff that supported our book fair this year.

This next week, I will be offering technology training to any parents that would like to attend. The technology training will take place in the Wireless Lab located within our Media Center. I will be going over different sites such as Galileo, Nettrekker, Bookflix, as well as some other websites that our teachers integrate into their lessons that you can use at home with your children. Please e-mail me or your child's teacher to sign up for a time slot.
Thank you for your continual support of Bennett Elementary School's Media Center!
